The Yacht Harbor Tower model guest room was designed as a prototype for a new direction in island hospitality, marking a shift away from traditional Hawaiiana toward a more minimal, contemporary aesthetic. Developed at a time when hotel design was beginning to open rooms visually and spatially, the model introduced glass-enclosed showers and a lighter, more architectural approach to space planning.
Our firm’s design focused on clarity, openness, and restraint, using clean lines and simplified forms to create a calm, modern retreat that maximized light and views. The transparent bathroom enclosure reduced visual barriers within the room, allowing the space to feel larger and more fluid while still maintaining functionality and privacy.
Material selections and detailing were intentionally pared back, reinterpreting island influences in a subtle, modern way rather than through literal Hawaiiana motifs. The result was a guest room that felt fresh, contemporary, and forward-thinking for its time, setting a precedent for future renovations within the tower.
The model room served as a design benchmark, demonstrating how modern planning strategies and refined material palettes could elevate the guest experience while signaling a broader evolution in Hawaiian resort interiors.
