Wyland Waikiki

Wyland Waikiki / Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach

Honolulu, Hawaii

Originally developed as the Wyland Waikiki, this two-tower hospitality project in the heart of Waikiki later transitioned through major hospitality brands, including Hilton management and its current operation as the Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach. The property comprises approximately 400 guest rooms and suites, supported by a rich collection of public amenities and outdoor leisure spaces.

Our firm was responsible for the design of all public spaces, guest rooms, and corridors, creating a cohesive design language throughout the hotel. The arrival experience is anchored by a dramatic lobby featuring a large aquarium, establishing an immediate visual connection to the marine environment that inspired the hotel’s original identity. Adjacent library areas, sitting zones, and social gathering spaces offer a range of guest experiences—from quiet retreat to active engagement while a centrally located bar and lounge serves as a vibrant social hub.,

The hotel’s outdoor pool areas were designed as extensions of the interior spaces, blending tropical landscape, seating terraces, and shaded zones to create relaxed, resort-like environments within an urban setting.

The guest rooms and corridors were designed to extend the project’s artistic narrative. Rooms feature custom-designed bedding, drapery, and carpeting, with patterns and motifs inspired by the work of Wyland, whose art defined the hotel’s original concept. These elements were complemented by original Wyland artwork displayed throughout the guest rooms and public spaces, reinforcing a strong thematic connection to ocean life and Hawaii’s surrounding waters.

Together, the architecture and interiors balance art, hospitality, and functionality, creating a layered guest experience that reflects Waikiki’s energy while maintaining a distinct sense of identity rooted in the project’s original artistic vision.
