The Modern Waikiki/Marriot Edition

Originally developed as The Edition Waikiki and now operating as The Modern Hotel, this project represents a modern interpretation of Hawaiian design set within the dynamic context of Waikiki. Our studio collaborated with the Marriott Group, working within their brand standards, to design the architecture of the common areas, guest rooms, and corridors.

The project was developed in conjunction with Yabu Pushelberg (New York), creating a cohesive relationship between architecture and interiors that balances contemporary international design with a relaxed island sensibility. The architectural approach emphasized clean lines, openness, and thoughtful circulation, allowing light and materiality to shape the guest experience.

Guest rooms and corridors were designed to feel calm and intentional, offering a refined retreat from the surrounding urban energy. Now known as The Modern Hotel, the property remains a strong example of contemporary Hawaiian hospitality, where modern design is subtly grounded in place and culture.
